Land of many waters ~ Guyana

After weeks of dry weather the rain has arrived in Guyana with a vengence and is threatening to ruin the ICC Cricket World Cup. Today's Super 8 match between South Africa and Sri Lanka at the new Providence Stadium in Guyana may well not happen. It has rained steadily in Guyana over the last four days and Brian Lara expressed his frustration after the third one-day international between West Indies and Zimbabwe in Georgetown, Guyana, on Saturday, was abandoned without a ball being bowled due to persistent rain.

Games still scheduled to be played in Guyana are:-
30 March - Ireland v England
01 April - West Indies v Sri Lanka
03 April - Ireland v South Africa
07 April - Bangladesh v South Africa
09 April - Ireland v New Zealand

From Wednesday 11 April the matches are scheduled to be played in Barbados.

Kaieteur Falls (photo taken by the author in October 1977) is the world's largest single drop water fall measuring 741 feet. For comparison, Kaieteur is about five times taller than Niagara falls.
