Cocaine stash found in prunes

A cocaine stash worth £30,000 has been found by customs officers inside more than 140 prunes.

HM Revenue and Customs said the find at the country's largest parcel depot at Coventry airport showed the "ever inventive" methods used by drug gangs.

The cocaine was found wrapped in clear plastic as they prised open each individual piece of fruit. Each of the 143 dried plums contained 4.4g of the Class A drug, totalling well over half a kilo. The consignment had arrived from Guyana and was destined for Spain.

No arrests have yet been made into the find but investigations are continuing, a Customs spokesman said.
